Meadowsweet Herb Cut & Sifted Wild Crafted
Filipendula ulmaria
A gentle, floral embrace for comfort and relief.
Invite the soothing spirit of the meadow into your home with our Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria). Known historically as the "Queen of the Meadow," this fragrant herb offers a delicate, almond-like aroma and a legacy of healing that bridges ancient herbalism and modern science. It is the botanical grandmother of modern aspirin, yet it carries a wisdom all its own—offering relief with a gentle touch that synthetic remedies often lack.
Features & Benefits
- Nature’s Gentle Relief: Historically the inspiration for aspirin (derived from its old botanical name, Spiraea), Meadowsweet is traditionally used to ease headaches and soothe aching joints without the harsh side effects often associated with modern pharmaceuticals.*
- Digestive Harmony: Unlike its synthetic counterparts, Meadowsweet is rich in protective compounds that cool and soothe the stomach, making it a beloved ally for those managing digestive upset or sensitivity.*
- Antioxidant Powerhouse: Packed with free radical-scavenging antioxidants, this herb supports overall wellness and helps the body maintain balance against daily stressors.
- Versatile Preparation: Whether brewed into a comforting tea, tinctured for potent relief, or applied as a warm poultice for tired muscles, Meadowsweet is a versatile addition to any natural medicine chest.
- Cooling Comfort: Ideally suited for "hot" conditions, such as pounding headaches or inflamed joints, helping to clear stagnation and bring a sense of cool, flowing relief.
The Original "Spiraea"
Long before the Bayer company coined the name "aspirin," herbalists understood the power of this creamy-flowered plant. While modern science isolated the pain-relieving compounds, it left behind the plant's natural buffering agents. Meadowsweet retains these vital partners—specifically flavonol glycosides—which protect and repair the digestive tract while the salicylates work to relieve pain. It is a perfect example of nature’s complexity offering a complete, balanced solution.
Imagine a remedy that calms the storm of a headache while simultaneously settling a queasy stomach. That is the gift of Meadowsweet. It is widely cherished for its ability to address stagnant pain, arthritis, and tension, acting as a cooling balm for the body's heated moments.

Safety
Salicylates may affect metabolism of iron, so should be taken a few hours apart from taking supplements. Meadowsweet (flowers in particular) may interact with coumadin or other blood thinners. As with other herbs containing salicylates, the use of meadowsweet is cautioned among some individuals, including those with salicylate sensitivities or who are allergic to aspirin (Mills & Bone, 2005). In addition, there is a theoretical possibility that salicylates in general may be linked to Reye’s syndrome, an acute sepsis-like illness occurring in children younger than 16.
